Hardy Stephen Allen, 63, died at 9 a.m. Sunday at his home, which is located one and one-fourth miles north of here. Death was caused by a self inflicted gunshot wound, according to Fountain County Coroner Ralph Nelson. His body was found in a garage by his wife, Treva. Mr. Allen had been in failing health two years and seriously ill two weeks. He was born Oct. 18, 1899, in Fountain County, a son of John W. and Hallie Richardson Allen. He was twice married. He was first married in 1922 to Jeanette Lee, who died March 20, 1925. On May 31, 1930 he was married to Treva Allen. Mr. Allen was employed by the Nickle Plate Railroad 23 years. He was a member of Modern Woodmen Lodge, Camp 8766 of Cates. Survivors in addition to the wife are two sons, Leonard of Wallace and Jesse at home; two daughters, Mrs. Alma Weir of Cayuga and Mrs. Joyce Marshall at home; four brothers, Herschel of Perrysville, Hobart of West Lebanon, Howard of Indianapolis and Harold of Monrovia; a sister, Mrs. Estella Orahood of Covington; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant child. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. (CST) Tuesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. Alfred Dobbs in charge. Burial will be in Snoddy’s Cemetery south of Covington. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home after noon Monday.
